Riverside Portfolio

The desired look for this home was the evolving design trend of rustic modern, which combines an open floor plan, modern furniture, and exposed natural architectural elements, such as wood and stone. The Douglas Fir, dark finished, timber frame – along with many stone feature areas and rustic wood paneling combined with the interior design, provided by Kevin Gray, and the owners’ own interest in native Canadian culture all collaborated to achieve this design mode, and a truly spectacular home.

The Riverside home is built on the Elbow River in urban Calgary. In keeping with the views of the river from the home, the owners wanted to incorporate naturalism into their design. This timber frame house, designed by McDowell & Associates of Calgary, allows one to imagine they are in a country getaway. This home features a blending between open space, with grand cathedral ceilings, and separate wings for a more intimate living environment. The Riverside home has Douglas fir timbers throughout the house. The contrast between the dark timber frame trusses and the light tongue and groove ceilings, both crafted by Hamill Creek Timber Homes, is one of the unique design elements in this home.
